Graduation
At the end of each academic year, Vanguard Military School takes great pride in celebrating its students’ success by hosting a Graduation Ceremony. We take this opportunity to demonstrate to the students’ families and friends, the work the students have done throughout the year. The students demonstrate their prowess through various skills including a physical training display, a drill, a student speech and the Vanguard haka.
The students work extremely hard throughout the year so the Graduation Ceremony is also a great way to reward those who have excelled academically through presenting individual subject awards.
Vanguard also offers many opportunities for students to step up outside of the academic realms of the school. Awards for physical training, leadership and overall student of the year (Pride of Vanguard) are also presented.
The Graduation Ceremony is a huge highlight for our staff and students and something they work extremely hard for.
Honours Board
Vanguard Military School takes great pride in watching our students work to get their qualifications and move joining a variety of careers and/or further education. Being a military school, we have many students who arrive with the aspiration of moving into the New Zealand Services. As these services have intakes throughout the year, we see a number of our students move on from school to start their training.
Physical training and morning/afternoon parade takes place in the hangar at Vanguard Military School. In the hangar we have a wall which holds our Honours Board. This is a list of names of each of our students who have successfully completely their basic training in either the Navy, Army, Airforce, Police or Fire Service.

Section Winners
At the start of each year all of our students are put into sections named after New Zealand Victoria Cross recipients. Throughout the course of the year the sections compete against each other for points, ending in a section winning the Intersection Competition Trophy at the end-of-year graduation ceremony. The students compete for points which can be awarded for academic achievement, attendance, good behaviour and in a different challenge every Friday afternoon.
